Lewis & Clark. Football. For alumni, past and present players, and the athletic administration these concepts are synonymous. For the rest of the campus, these concepts are incongruous. Murmurs about canceling the football program send ripples of possibilities across Palatine Hill—possibilities of a men’s soccer or lacrosse team. But before the homecoming game against the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, President Thomas Hochstettler and Athletic Director Clark Yeager renewed their commitment to rebuilding this struggling program and quelled the rumors; LC football is not going anywhere. The question then becomes how to turn the program around

Prior to the Bear Fete Invitational two weeks ago, the freshman runner was told by one of the older runners that if he placed in the top five at that meet, he would be taken to all his classes in a rickshaw for the rest of the semester. In return, however, he had to agree that if he placed lower he would let the rest of the team give him a mohawk.

The winter of 1998 was harsh; I assume at least as harsh as the winter that preceded it. So it is not surprising that most Americans tuned in to watch the Winter Olympics played in Nagano, Japan. That's when I first learned about curling, also known colloquially as "crisping."

After four years in a Pioneer jersey, the name Ryan Wells (’06) has become synonymous with not only three-point shooting, but also shooting really well from beyond the arc. Around Pamplin, to “pull a Wells” is to casually pull-up from the hash mark or the lettering along the home bench and drain a three like it was your job – and for four seasons in the Northwest Conference, Wells has been punching in for overtime.

The 19 member team this past weekend demolished Black Fin, a Portland club, 9 to 1.They also played well but came up short against Gonzaga and The University of Washington. Fundamental changes, a rock-solid freshmen class, and a new season have all coalesced to form a team representing Palatine Hill with nothing less than impressive strength.

Do you remember their 8-0 start? The Pioneer baseball team were winners of 10 of their first 11 games. The season looked to be the largest turnaround the Northwest Conference had ever seen. With ten wins, the Pios were one victory away from matching last seasons total. It took the 2003 Pios until the last weekend of the year to gain that elusive eleventh win. This team though, needed only the first weekend of conference play to have a shot at it. Getting to ten wins was easy, but that eleventh has proven to be quite tricky. Lewis & Clark has failed to win in over a week of action. Five straight losses have stained their once flawless record to a respectable 10-6.

The oft-underrepresented club sports teams of Lewis & Clark College are getting a little help from Mikal Sherman. Sherman has recently re-founded the old LC Club Sports Council. When Sherman found out about the formerly abandoned CSC, he realized that club sports are disorganized and "in desperate need of organization."

Pioneers put early pressure on Lutes but fall apart quickly

Scared. Bewildered. Horrified. Those three words could not even begin to express the massive Pacific Lutheran University crowd’s feelings of having a five-point deficit with 8:43 remaining in the second quarter. With the score 12-7, in favor of the underdog and emotionally charged Pioneers, an upset was brewing. Unfortunately for the Pios, they ran out of coffee beans as the Lutes big play offense exploded for back to back scoring drives of 41-yards and 53-yards respectively, extending their halftime lead to ten points at 22-12. The deficit proved to be insurmountable as the diehard PLU fans finally exhaled.
